SmB6 Sputtering Targets
Samarium hexaboride is a typical intermediate valence compound, in which the ratio of Sm2+ to Sm3+ is 3:7. It belongs to a kind of kondo insulator. At high temperature (over 50 K), its properties are typical of kondo metal. The strong electron scattering makes it metal conductive. SMB6 is accompanied by metal-insulator transformation caused by cooling caused by a sharp increase in thermal conductivity, with a peak value of about 15k. The increase is due to the fact that the electron does not contribute to thermal conductivity at low temperature and the reduction of the dominant electron concentration reduces the electron-phonon scattering rate.
A new study suggests it could be a topological insulator.
